Family Services
Catholic Charities provides services to families in a variety of ways. These services are designed to assist one member of a family unit or the family unit as a whole. This is done by offering the following services:
Consumer Credit Counseling - This program ofers debt management services, consultation, budgting and other educational services to help families manage their financies more effiecintly. Primarily offered by Catholic Charities of Ashtabula County, this program provided services to 635 individuals last year.
Grandcaring Connection - This group offers a network for grandparents who are arising their grandchildren. Education and social opportunities are availalbe for grandparents in need of support services.
Parenting Skills Training - focuses on the needs of single parents as well as couples to reinforce the value of cooperation, encouragement, responsibility, communication skills and discipline in building positive parent-child relationships. In 2006, this program worked with 288 individuals (149 women and 139 men).
Values Education - This program is available in Ashtabula and Stark Counties and worked with 4,119 individuals, mostly students under the age of 18, last year. The goal of this program is to promote the sanctity of sexual relations within the context of marriage. It teaches students the potential consequences of teen pregnancy, sexualy transmitted diseases, AIDS, substance abuse and other emothional issues that teens confront.
